Abstract

The development of new advanced technology and the general conditions of providing welfare has increased the trends in the nature of social enterprises around the world. This creates a need to research the multiple aspects associated with their growth and development. The increasing spread of social enterprises across the globe and the benefits of the nations and societies from their existence created a need of academic research to find the exact reasons for their existence in different contexts. Different forms of these organizations have also been discussed with multiple dimensions that resulted in their undefined reasons of existence in various contexts. This paper will shed light on those undefined and under-researched reasons that will assist academic research to give a push in their expansion. Based on the evidence from Pakistan, this paper is a contribution to understand the role of social enterprises by identifying six main reasons behind their development. By applying qualitative research methodology, the present research contributes to providing insights about those needs that are important for the growth and development of social enterprises in developing countries.
