Abstract

Background: Nanoparticles have achieved a lot of attention and influenced considerable material science. The dominance of nanoparticles may continue in the future years because of its technological importance with implementing incessant research in this field. Plant extracts are widely used in the pharmaceutical industries as they are naturally available and fewer side effects.

Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze the cytotoxic effect of grape seed extract mediated Titanium dioxide nanoparticles.

Materials and Methods: Red grape seeds were dried and powdered. The powdered grape seed was mixed with distilled water and prepared an extract and mixed with titanium dioxide solution and kept in a magnetic stirrer for nanoparticles formation. Brine shrimp eggs were collected and hatched. The nauplii were then collected, 10 for each well which was filled with NaCl solution and synthesized grape seed mediated titanium dioxide nanoparticles with varying concentrations (5 to 25 μL) was loaded in each well, and a control of just NaCl solution and nauplii were used for comparison. The wells were left undisturbed for 24 hours and the number of nauplii in each well was calculated and it was recorded to analyze the lethality of the extract.

Results: The results showed that grape seed mediated titanium dioxide nanoparticles had very less or negligible cytotoxic effect on nauplii and it was found that nauplii alive was directly proportional to the concentrations.

Conclusion: From the current study, it was concluded that the prepared grape seed mediated titanium dioxide nanoparticles had very less or negligible cytotoxic activity.
