Abstract

During the present study, activated carbon was prepared from peach stones using chemical activation method by impregnation in 85% phosphoric acid followed by carbonization in 773 K. The effect of contact time, dose of carbon, pH and dye concentration has been studied. Both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms have been applied to this study. Batch study showed that equilibrium isotherms for all the adsorbents used in the study are of favorable type. The equilibrium data for azodye adsorption on the prepared activated carbon well fitted to the Langmuir equation, with maximum monolayer adsorption capacities of (23.09 mg/g). Peach stone shows good removal efficiency (94%). The ideal pH, dose of carbon, contact time and dye concentration were 7.5, 0.2 g, 40 min and 50mg/L, respectively.
