Abstract

To fulfill user demands broadband access becomes an important requirement supports various real time services and applications. WiMAX is a Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks, covering large distances with high throughput and is a promising technology for Next Generation Networks. For the efficient implementation of WiMAX system, Quality of Service (QoS) is a mandatory feature that must be supported. QoS is an important consideration for supporting variety of applications that utilize the network resources. These applications include voice over IP (VoIP), multimedia services, like, video streaming, video conferencing etc. web browsing applications like HTTP (hyper- text transfer protocol), email, FTP (file transfer protocol). To analyze the QoS parameters, the WiMAX module developed based on popular network simulator OPNET 14.5 is used. In this paper the performances of the High quality voice traffic over a WiMAX network using various voice codecs has been investigated shows that G.729A voice codec provides best QoS. Performance of streaming traffic i.e. VoIP, video conferencing and non-streaming (Bursty) type traffic like HTTP are also compared by taking different parameters like modulation techniques, profile types, path loss models, duplexing techniques and channel models concludes that 64 QAM3/4, OFDM 20MHz, free space and vehicular, TDD and channel B respectively provides best QoS.
