Benign Spindle Cell Lesion in Subglottis: A Rare Case Study

This case report emphasizes on the importance of a complete clinical examination with involvement of other specialities in the diagnosis. Spindle cell carcinoma designates a rare variant growth pattern of squamous cell carcinoma in which the spindle epithelial cell resembles a sarcoma on histological examination.

An upper airway obstruction secondary to a subglottic tumor can be easily misdiagnosed as bronchial asthma. We report a 16 year old girl who was misdiagnosed as bronchial asthma whereas finally diagnosed as spindle cell lesion of subglottis. The diverse range of spindle cell lesions, which can be reactive, malignant, or extremely aggressive, is the pathology of the head and neck that presents the greatest challenge. Therefore, it is essential to make a precise diagnosis, which can be done with the aid of diagnostic and radiological facilities.
