SENSITIVITY PATTERN OF Salmonella typhi AND Salmonella paratyphi IN FEW CLINICS OF BANGLADESH

Enteric fever is still a major cause of illness, death specially in South Asia and Africa. Salmonella species showing resistance to first line antibiotics were previously reported which reduce the outcome of enteric fever treatment. The current study was undertaken to check the resistant pattern of Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi. The main aim of the current study was to investigate the activity of a range of commonly prescribed antibiotics to Salmonella species found in enteric fever infected patients. Overall, we found Salmonella typhi was more predominant compared to Salmonella paratyphi. Ceftriaxone, Cefixime, Ciprofloxacin and Azithromycin were most effective among the antibiotics we tested during the current study.
