Abstract

The burden on the natural resources has been tremendous due to the increase in their demand to satisfy the need of energy. A major part of this energy utilized to provide the comfort environment throughout the year. An air-cooling system requires electricity for producing the cooled air. Ground has an ample amount of heat energy, which can be utilized for various purposes including cooling effect in an air-cooling system.

The test set-up is developed for to investigate the performance of room cooler in which the ground heat is used as a source of heating or cooling the refrigerant in winter and summer and heat extractor (condenser) in summer and winter. The set-up consisting evaporator and condenser coils to cool the air. Pump is used instead of compressor to circulate the refrigerant through system under pressure. Experimentation results highlights the cooling ability of the system (drop of air temperature by 8-9°C from room temperature).
